No idea tbh, the depreciation makes them a good used buy though.

Haha would be a bit of a hard sell for me. Got the Mondeo because they’re popular and sell fast.

Depreciation is a double-edged sword. Until you get to the stage where they start appreciating again, you’re going to get hit by it too. After doubling my money on each of the last two cars I had, it seems wrong to go and buy something where I’ll lose money instead of making a profit.

Maybe I’ll get an RX-8 - they at least can’t depreciate any further...

Very true.

I think at this point people are going to have to pay you to take their RX8... They keep popping up for pennies around here. Supposedly running too, though I find that hard to believe.

So I’m guessing you’re in ... Great Britain? And yeah - it makes perfect sense that a Twingo is waaaaayy cheaper to insure than a Mondeo/Fusion big Ford.

Yeah the Twingo cost me £450 this year, quote for the Mondeo was £1300... I could technically afford it but its not worth it to me.

I’ve been doing a bit of research, and honestly I’m not sure that replacing apex seals is a huge step up from DPF fettling. If that’s actually correct, and if you suck up the minimum £300 a year road tax, and the crappy fuel economy, it’s a hell of a car for the money. I’ve seen nice condition, low-mileage non-runners for around five hundred quid, and at that price you can pay someone to do an engine swap and still come out a winner.

You know what, I’m calling it: the market in RX-8s has bottomed out. They’re going to plateau for a while, but then prices will only go back up as the enthusiasts take over.
